Because it took a bit to schedule my progress check, we had another lesson on Monday just to refresh on landings. The forecast last night looked wonderful, 6 knots of wind which is rare for me. I was excited.
I woke up at 6:30am because for the longest time I had it in my head that my lesson was at 10am not 12pm so my body just woke me up anyway. I rolled over and went back to sleep and decided to let my alarm wake me up at 8am. My alarm didn’t wake me up though! I rolled over and looked at my phone when I woke up, it was 10:52. My train left at 10:25, oh no! I texted my instructor and then ran around like crazy to try to be ready to catch the 11:25. I got there just in time. I did my New Yorker walk from the train station to the flight school and was there by 12:33.
Pre-flighted and ready to go up, but the winds were picking up. We still went up because it wasn’t horrible but definitely a good crosswind. First landing was perfect! It was awesome and I could barely feel the touch down. BAM! I was excited and so was my instructor. I joked that I didn’t need a warm up one today.
Second landing didn’t happen, I had to go my first go around! The controller cleared someone for take off and said be quick about it, but they weren’t, they were still in the run up space. I wasn’t so good at my go around since we haven’t even really covered it. But glad we were able to do it.
Second real landing it was good too. Not as good as the first but still a nice crosswind landing. Then the third was definitely my worst, it was safe but I accidentally pushed forward a bit on the landing and was a little too right of the center line. Also during the pattern, my instructor commented on my patterns are perfect at first and then I get a little sloppy and my altitude wanders a bit. Something to definitely to fix. Last landing was good, we had a Lear Jet behind us so it was a bit rushed but still a good landing.
I felt pretty good after the lesson. There is still a sinkhole at the airport so taxiing back is still an issue. We had to wait a long time to be cleared to back taxi down the runway, but it gave us time to watch a lot of planes land and talk about them. We also saw an Edge take off and that was amazing! It took him like 10 feet to get off the ground. We just talked about the Progress Check a bit, I asked if I would have passed if I did the landings I did today, she said yes. But we still have to make sure the winds are pretty calm when it happens. I’m still like triple crossing my fingers for tomorrow!
I got a call this morning to move it back later in the day from 10am to 12pm. It’s suppose to be a four hour block so I was a little mad because I made it clear that that because of the train schedule 10am-2pm is the only 4 hour block I can do. I told them it had to be done in time to catch the last train at 3:35pm. I guess I’m just feel a bit neglected by the school because of that, and just not getting in as many lessons as I would like but I think it’s more me and then the weather too.
I’m also just getting worried about how much time it is taking to solo. My boyfriend also told me that a lot of people think it’ll go fast after soloing but says it normally takes the time you took to solo times 3 to finish up because if you screw up one lesson redoing it again it about 2 hours. So I’ll definitely have to really focus to keep the hours down and NOT screw up.
Lesson Time: 0.9 hour
Total Time: 20 hours
