I’ve been neglecting all of you and I’m sorry. 2017 so far as been insanely busy but also very slow on the flying front. I vow to amend that!
A quick recap on things outside the flying realm. Jake and I are now engaged and getting married this year! A lot of my time has been sucked up by wedding planning since we wanted to get married this year and have one of those year+ engagements (it’s already been over 5 years!) Now as some people might ask, the theme isn’t aviation. We actually don’t really have anything aviation in our wedding since we both work in aviation and we go flying together, we wanted a quick break from it. Also, Jake got hired by a major airline (yay!) and has been away training for most of the year. He’s almost done and hopefully my work schedule isn’t as intense and we can find some time to fly together.
It’s been very rainy in California this year so that has also put a damper on my flying. I know it’s good and now we’re out of a drought now, but makes my job harder and then I can’t fly either! Since winter is pretty much done, the rains and winds should start behaving better now.
We were able to sneak in a flight the other day on a gorgeous day. The night prior the TAF lied, but I now have a deep mistrust of TAFs anyway after dispatching and discovering how wrong they can be. It was almost 90 days so the focus was on knocking off the rust on landings instead of picking up right where we left off.
My landings weren’t bad, but they certainly weren’t great. The biggest difference I’ve noticed this time around is I have a clear idea what is going wrong in my landings during the process but my reactions are still a bit delayed on fixing it before I touch down. It seems like progress though.
Jake did some landings as well, and he was having some issues too with being too high. Maybe it’s from flying a jet, maybe it’s also we went to a different airport with a wider runway so different than what we’re getting used to flying out of a small and narrow runway airport.
It was a good flight on a beautiful day, hopefully more next week!
Congratulations
Welcome back and congratulations on getting married
He will have a tendency to “porpoise” (spelling?) while he looks for the flair level, as you said! Because of his sight-picture being higher in the larger plane.
This happens to my brother all of the time, coming from JetBlue and then into my C-150!
Congrats on the wedding.
keep flying….. You may get people looking at you sideways because it seems to them you stop and go on your pursuit, don’t let them latch-on! Keep getting up and out as often as you can. You will find a brisk wind that propels you forward in your training that gets derailed, less.
