Yesterday, I flew home to Chicago to help my mom recover from surgery. Doing this puts a bit of a damper on flying, but I tried to make it up on the flight here.
The captain announced people could listen to ATC on channel 9 if they to and told us the call sign. I rushed to pull out headphones from my bag. I listened to us taxi to the runway. The controllers switched, it was fun to listen to all the pilots talking and I could understand them all! There was some ILS talk for take offs I didn’t understand but I understood most. I wish I had an airport map of Laguardia so I could follow along. I enjoyed some taxiways were two letters like Yankee Yankee.
I followed us through switching frequencies every time they switched the volume went all the way down. So I just read my book until we were a few miles out and I switched to listening again just in time to hear clear to land. When on the ground I heard so many more female pilots and female maintenance. It was interesting, maybe because there are more regionals out of ORD than LGA. Anyway, it was a fun experience and hope to do it on the plane back!
