Yesterday I hit 100 followers! I’m pretty excited, so thanks everyone who is following.
Something that I’m very happy about since switching schools is the sense of community. I’ve been thinking about it for the past few lessons because we always run into other students, owners, or just people around the airport whenever I’m at the airport now. I very much enjoy talking to other students coming out of the 152 and seeing where they are in the process.
At my old school, even though we had a nice pilot store and area for people to hang out, I never really was able to meet other pilots. It was sad because I feel flying and pilots LOVE community and always want to talk to more pilots. If not, why are there so many fly-ins, pilot forums, pilot blogs, and even Oshkosh?! It’s just something about flying that makes people want to bond with others who fly as well.
I remember reading about others meeting up at the airport or just having a nice conversation with other pilots before going up. I wanted that. Now, I have it. It makes the lesson that much more enjoyable. I get to see cooler planes people own and personally, I love being able to wave to people while taxing to the runway.
So even though my school doesn’t have an office on airport property, they are much better about promoting a community. How are your airports/flight schools with their community feeling?
